Our Week in School

6th Oct 2018

What beautifully autumnal weather we had this week, just perfect to start our topic "Awesome Autumn". We read some digital books on the whiteboard to find out about signs of autumn, the farm in autumn, animals in autumn, autumn celebrations and autumn 🍁. During play we worked together to build farm floor jigsaws and then recorded different sets of farm animals by drawing pictures. We played with the farm, making beds for the animals in the shed with real hay. We made patterns in the sand using sticks, stones, shells and our hands.

During World Around Us we investigated autumn leaves, we learned a song "The leaves on the treees", we went outside to brush the leaves in the playground using rakes and brushes, we jumped in the leaves and threw the leaves. Back in the class we learned how to use some new equipment such as viewing glasses and magnifying glasses to get a closer look at leaves and tree bark. We made leaf rubbings, drew the patterns and lines that we saw on the bark and worked together to paint an autumn tree for our display board.

During number work we learned about the number 3, we made sets of 3, recorded sets of 3, made the number 3 from play dough and beads.

At the end of the week we recalled all the signs of autumn we had explored throughout the week and made an autumn scene by selecting autumn pictures. We made autumn trees using colouring pencil and finger paints.

We hope you enjoy looking at a few of our class activities this week, and that's the end of another busy week in school 😉
