💻🦆 P6/7 Coding with Code.org – Dancing Ducks and Digital Skills! 🦆💻
Today our P6/7 class had great fun using Code.org to create their very own dancing ducks, characters and animations by writing and adapting lines of code. 🤩
The pupils explored how simple blocks of instructions can be combined to make something creative, fun and interactive. 😁
Through today’s lesson, the children learned that coding isn’t just something used in computer games – it is part of everyday life.
From phones 📱 to cars 🚗, from websites 🌐 to smart home devices 🏠, coding helps run the world around us.
Using ICT in school is essential for preparing our pupils for the future. Coding helps develop key skills such as:
✨ Logical thinking
✨ Creativity
✨ Problem‑solving
✨ Patience and resilience
✨ Digital awareness
These skills benefit their learning across all areas of the curriculum, not just ICT.
Today’s lesson showed just how powerful and enjoyable learning through technology can be, and how our pupils can use code to bring their ideas to life. 🌟

✨ BEAM Online Safety Workshop ✨
Today our Primary 6 and 7 pupils took part in an Online Safety workshop delivered by BEAM, led by Ro and Briege 👩🏫👩💻.
They learned how to recognise scams and why it is so important to never share private information, our location or photos with people we don’t know.
We discussed different online scenarios and had to decide whether they were safe or unsafe 🟢🔴
We also watched a video showing that once something is posted online, it can stay there forever ♾️ – a really important reminder to think before we post 💭.
The workshop reminded us how important it is to speak up if something online makes us feel uncomfortable.
We also talked about why we should never share passwords with anyone except our parents and explored how AI has become such a big part of life today 🤖.
Ro and Briege said they were very impressed with the role our Digital Leaders play in our school ⭐
They praised everyone for their excellent knowledge of how to stay safe online, avoid scams, and make smart choices when using the internet 💡💻
This was such a worthwhile and valuable workshop for our pupils to take part in.
We would like to offer our thanks to Ro and Briege for taking time to join us today and further educate us on the importance of online safety 🛡️.

Recently in Reception and Primary 1, our World Around us topic has been Winter ❄️.
We have been learning about how water freezes to form ice and exploring animals that live in the Arctic. 🐻❄️
As part of our learning, we carried out an ice experiment to investigate which material would melt ice the fastest. The children worked to “rescue” animals that were trapped in blocks of ice. We tested salt, sugar, and warm water.
We discovered that warm water melted the ice the quickest. Most importantly, we had great fun while learning through our experiment 🧊.

Happy St Brigid's Day 🙌🏻
We were delighted to welcome Bridie Girvan and John McNally, representing Rock Historical Society, into school on Friday. Both are incredibly knowledgeable, experienced, and wonderful community people who always bring history and tradition to life for our children.
They spent the morning teaching some of our
classes how to make St Brigid’s crosses, sharing stories and had plenty of laughs along the way.
The children had an absolute ball!
ALL families will receive a St Brigid Cross next week!
Thank you to everyone who donated rushes too.🤝
We hope St Brigid’s Day brings light, protection and many blessings to everyone of you! ⭐️

🙌🏻County Final Bound⭐️
What an unbelievable day our P7 boys had yesterday at the CnmB Tír Eoghain heats held in Cookstown Leisure Centre!
Our lads took part in a series of thrilling league games against Gaelscoil Eoghain, Blessed Patrick O’Loughran PS, and St Mary’s Carland. Each match was packed with skill, determination and fantastic football.
The league stage was incredibly tense, with Sacred Heart PS Rock and St Mary’s Carland finishing level on 8 points each. That meant top spot came down to goal difference - and we are delighted to say Sacred Heart PS Rock topped the group!
⭐ Semi-Finals
The excitement didn’t stop there! Rock vs Blessed Patrick O’Loughran. Our boys put in a phenomenal performance, winning 4–0. Huge credit to Blessed Patrick O’Loughran — they gave the Rock lads a serious game and showed brilliant sportsmanship throughout.
Gaelscoil Eoghain vs St Mary’s Carland played in the other semi-final, full of energy and competitive spirit. Gaelscoil Eoghain came out on top with a 3–0 victory in a tight, hard-fought match.
🏆 THE FINAL: Rock vs Gaelscoil Eoghain
The final absolutely lived up to the occasion — fast, competitive and bursting with talent from both sides. Our boys dug deep, showed huge character, and came away worthy winners with a 3–0 victory! 🟢⚫️
A Brilliant Day for Schools’ GAA!
A massive thank you to all the schools who took part, and to Marty Devlin for refereeing the matches so professionally.
And of course…
🔥 A huge well done to our P7 boys!
Good luck in the Tyrone County Final in a few weeks’ time — the whole Rock community is behind you! ⭐
