Our Week in Reception and Primary One

11th Mar 2016

Wow! What a busy week we have had! We have had a trip to the Armagh County Museum, a visit from our local florist, Steven Mallon, and lots of preparations for our Saint Patrick's Day assembly on Monday.

In the County Museum we looked at toys that were over 150 years old!! Some were so old that we could only look at them. While we were there we played with some old toys...that didn't need batteries or electricity! Then we made some old toys of our own using wooden pegs.

Chloe Cassidy joined us for P.E this week and we had played some games together, our favourite game was "Tails" where we had to catch each other by the tail. We had some dance drama through our World Around Us topic. We pretended to be a little seed hiding under the ground waiting for the Spring rain and sun to help us grow.

We practised writing the letters h and m.

To continue or World Around Us theme we talked about the clothes we would wear for different weathers, and we chose clothes for Monkey to wear to suit the weather. We continued our daily weather report, and we can report lots of rain in Springtime. Our greenhouses have been working hard and some of our seeds have started to shoot at last.

In art we talked about the Pop Artist Andy Warhol. He created a picture called "Flowers" and we made our own version of his picture. The Reception class made some lovely tissue paper tulips, and we made our Shamrock hats for our Saint Patrick's Day Assembly.

On Thursday, our local Florist, Steven Mallon came to our class to talk to us about his job. He brought different types of flowers and plants to touch , see and smell, and told us how we can care for them. He very kindly gave us some plants with the very important job of looking after them and making sure they grow.
