Our Week in Reception and Primary One

14th Apr 2016

We have been reading the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle this week. We have enjoyed many activities related to this story in playtime, literacy and numeracy time. We printed circles to make our own caterpillars. We talked about healthy and not healthy foods and sorted the food that the Hungry Caterpillar ate. We made playdough caterpillars and food, built fruit that the Caterpillar ate with Lego, made red and green patterns using beads, traced the days of the week in the sand and did some caterpillar counting and ordering on the Interactive Whiteboard. During literacy time we had a Caterpillar "Write the Room" where we had to find words hidden around the room related to the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Have a listen to the instruments we have been playing and the songs we have been singing about The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Mrs Mallon brought everyone a present all the way from Australia...we love our Koalas and Kangaroos! Thank you so much Mrs Mallon!

During PE we continued to practise our hopping skills. We hopped in and out of hula hoops, made tadpoles with skipping ropes and travelled up the rope in a variety of ways and then hopped into the rope.

During Religion we have been talking about the Church as a special place to pray. We have been practising good behaviour in the Church, praying to the Holy Family, singing, standing and kneeling during Mass. We have looked at stained glass windows and talked about the colours and pictures in them. Have a listen to the song we sang while we were in the Church.

Not only are we busy in school, but we have very busy lives outside of school. Alana brought in her horse riding trophies and Mary-Kate brought in her Irish dancing medals...we are a talented bunch!
