Forest School Week Four

21st May 2019

What a day of discovery at the Forest School today. First we played some games in the fresh air, we played relay races with sticks, then we threw pinecones to see who could throw theirs the farthest. Micheal was able to throw his really far. Then we went to the Secret Garden where we searched for pond life by pond dipping with nets.

We discovered lots of creatures beneath the surface of the water. We found lots of tadpoles, water spiders, beetles and we even caught a newt! We learned that pond skaters like to skim across the surface of the water.

While pond dipping we developed our balance skills (no-one fell into the water), gross motor skills, observational skills and our language skills through the learning of new vocabulary. Now we know the names of forest creatures that live on the land AND in the water.

We can't wait to extend our learning back in the classroom this week.
