Our Week in Reception and Primary One

8th Apr 2016

We are all glad to be back to school after our Easter holidays! After all the chocolate that the Easter Bunny brought it is time to start thinking about ways to keep our bodies healthy. We have discussed the importance of keeping healthy and ways in which we can by eating healthily, getting plenty of rest, enjoying exercise and keeping our bodies clean. Next week we will look at healthy eating in more detail.

During P.E. we worked on hopping as a way of travelling... and hopping really got our bodies moving and our hearts pumping! We practised some other skills such as bouncing, crawling, skipping and running. We learned how to jump and land safely.

We worked on our understanding of the structure of a sentence, putting the word s and punctuation in the right order and checking our sentence for sense. We used our reading books to put the missing words into the right place in the sentence. We remember to use our reading books to help if we are stuck.

In Religion we discussed different places we can pray, what we use to pray, and who we can pray with. Some of the boys and girls talked about the prayer spaces they made at home in their bedrooms with rosary beads, holy water and battery candles. We practiced kneeling and praying.. and we learned a new word for kneeling, "genuflect" which is a sign of respect to God. Next week we will visit the Chapel as a special place to pray.

We have worked in pairs and in groups this week, developing our skill of working together. We made posters for our senses in groups, and made domino jigsaws in pairs. We are working hard to share space and materials, taking turns and listening to the  opinions of others.
