Our Week in Reception and Primary One

29th Apr 2016

This week we continued our work on addition and practised making simple addition sums using dominoes and pompoms. We are really starting to get the hang of reading a sum using all the right vocabulary.

We sorted environmental pictures according to their 3D shapes. Some of the 3D shape words are tricky and take a lot of practise, especially cuboid and cylinder.

In P.E. we finished our hopping unit. We made a hopping station out of hoops and domes, and then had to hop high to hop inside the hoop.

In Religion we talked about the importance of water in the Church. We practised blessing ourselves with holy water from our class holy water font. We talked about how holy water is used in Baptism as a welcome to God's family,  and we brought in some lovely photographs of our own Baptisms.

In the World Around Us we discussed the importance of keeping clean and practised washing our hands well with soap and water.

During Literacy we practised writing the letters a and d on the whiteboard, using pom poms, tweezers and playdough. To finish off our work on The Very Hungry Caterpillar we looked at a digital information text about the life cycle of a butterfly and watched a video of the life cycle. We played a barrier game to complete a butterfly, we had to give our friend instructions how to complete their butterfly. This really tested our speaking and listening skills!!

Well done to Chloe and Alanna for their dancing successes.

We painted butterflies in a variety of different ways...I think you will agree that we are fantastic butterfly artistes!

Have a great bank holiday weekend everyone!
