Experiencing The Irish Famine in Dungannon

As part of World Book Day celebrations Primary 6 and 7 visited Dungannon Library and Ranfurly House in Dungannon to make their learning experiences about The Irish Famine real.  'Under the Hawthorn Tree' by Marita Conlon McKeena was the stimulus for the visit.  Pupils learned more about Dungannon Workhouse in the library and then in Ranfurly house experienced life as a child being admitted to the workhouse.  Pupils met Mrs McKinley, the formidable matron of the workhouse.
